The Los Angeles city council announced on Monday that a street outside Staples Center would be renamed “Kobe Bryant Boulevard”, and within two hours of the name change, the street was shot 41 times by an off-duty LAPD officer.
Los Angeles Chief of Police, Wyatt Pauer, declined to speak with SportSinner, but an official statement regarding the incident was posted on the LAPD’s Tumblr account late Monday evening.
An internal investigation has been launched to ensure that no pavement was damaged by the gunfire and to determine whether the fourth-grade girls were armed.
The officer, whose name has not yet been disclosed, was given a three-month paid
vacation suspension and will undergo sensitivity training at Ted Nugent’s Pistol Emporium.
